However, unlike you, if we don't have some incredible results with Cooks and he leaves in FA next year, I classify it as a failed trade.
But...your analysis on Watkins is spot on.
My big concern, before Watkins left, was improvement in the red zone. Without Watkins? Hmm....
That's why I've been big on getting quality red zone big bodied TE in this draft. Well, our draft capital has dwindled to make that happen. I also realize we are void at the edge on defense.
I wish we could trade up...although in one mock I saw TE Andrews drop to the third.
People here seem to think Everett will be the answer. I think he is an answer...but a bad answer. Time will tell.
If improving in the redzone depends on one player it's not real improvement.
The GSOT Rams were great in the redzone without a single Sammy Watkins on the roster.
Heck here's an even more esoteric comparison. Early in 2012, Rams were not that good throwing inside the redzone. They addressed it during the bye. From that point on, Bradford got near 50% TDs on attempts inside the 10. Schottenheimer did that without any receivers. Certainly without a Watkins.
IMO you don't improve in the redzone by putting it just on a receiver. You fix the entire redzone scheme and how you attack and in what ways.
