What we do know is that the Rams have said that Donald expects to be the highest paid D player in the league.
But they've never said they intend to make him that (as far as I can remember).
And there is a rumor that Donald wants to have a deal with a player option to walk away from the contract after 3 years.
So perhaps Donald is wanting to reset typical contract terms. Or, maybe the rumor is way off base.
Clearly, however, whatever the negotiations have produced is disagreement or a new deal would have been signed.
If we don;t list AL the rumors we're being selective.
The Rams also indicated that the issue was structure, ie that it was harder to structure an extension into 2017 than it would be in 2018.
That suggests the issue is not the amount, it is how the deal is put together in terms of annual amounts.
Leave that bit out and you have not included all the info that was out there.
That's a significant bit because it slows down the "it's on the player" assumptions that people often run with at contract time.
