I am really torn on how the Rams should deal with this. The man is a superior talent. Maybe a "once in a generation" type player but his position causes debates on how much he should be paid. Glad I am not making that decision lol.
I wish we know what exactly AD is asking for and just how much the Rams are willing to pay but the FACT is that NONE of us really know what goes down in those negotiation meetings between the Rams and his agent. NOBODY. We can speculate all we want. We can say the Rams are "lowballing" him. We can say AD is asking for way too much for his position but "WE" just DON'T KNOW. What is the truth? Did he want mega money AND an out as some stated last year? Should the Rams just "give him whatever he wants" no matter what?? Blame the Rams? Blame AD? You will only be basing your "blame" on what you "think" you know.
It makes for interesting debates for sure and I can see good points for both sides but it is still just speculation on our part as to what really is going on in those negotiations. Who is right and who is wrong? I just don't know. I won't put down AD and I won't put down the Rams based on speculation. I just hope they can work it out so that BOTH sides are happy with the outcome.
Yeah it's not safe to make the old "player asking too much" assumption.
IF there IS a problem it's at least equally plausible to assume that it's the Rams lowballing.
No team gives a player whatever they want no matter what...that's just message board rhetoric. Should a player accept a team's offer no matter what?
When we lack information, which in this case, you're right, we most decidedly do, is it fair to assume that the problem is the player? Or is it fair to assume the problem is the team? How about the safest assumption---it's either neither or both.
We do know at least this much. NOTHING the Rams have said about any of this even remotely suggests that AD is a problem. They did suggest that with both Tru and Watkins---in both cases we heard, we would like them back if we can do it. That, translated, means the Rams are not going to pay them what they are asking. In AD's case, in contrast, all we hear is we want to do this, we want to get it done. There have been hints that it was harder to structure an extension in 2017 than it would be in 2018 (in 2018 they can use 2019 cap space to structure things so it is, yeah, easier). That's it. We heard structure issues, not "amount" issues.
