It just doesn;t work like that.
The measure for QB money is that year's market, which is higher (always) then previous markets in previous years.
Same with every other position.
Last year WRs up for a second contract (who were also not in the top 5 elite category) was 13-14 M. This year it's 16 M. Etc. etc. They are not going to NOT pay a WR 16 M in 2018 because a qb in 2014 signed for 16 M.
In terms of your analogy, you;re saying an apprentice in 2018 can't make as much as a carpenter did in 2015...even though carpenters in 2018 are making more than they did in 2015.
The market has a logic, teams follow it, and so discussing things means we have to pay attention to how the market works.
DTs, even an elite one, will not get
QBs in 2018 money. But nothing says that because all qbs signed for less in 2015 that DTs in 2018 cannot then exceed those 2015 numbers.
