Max brings up a great point and my feeling is they liked Talib better than Ogletree IMHO. Plus I have a feeling the Rams were encouraged by either free agency or the draft as to landing an ILB cheaper than Ogletree with the ability to acquire two shut down CB's that in Wade's scheme is priority number one.
All in all, they extended Ogletree because they felt good about the deal, but then discovered they had better options and went in that direction. If those options did not exist, they would have kept Ogletree, it's that simple Max.
The Rams have full time personnel people. They should have largely known what their ILB options were going to be in free agency and the draft.
They should have largely known what the CB options were going to be in free agency and the draft. Talib being available wasn't a surprise to fans who pay close attention. It definitely shouldn't have been to the Rams personnel staff.
What explains why they made him the 2nd highest ILB in the league? They never should have felt good about the deal.
IMO, they made a grievous mistake, realized it in reviewing personnel after the season, and corrected it.
