in any case...you keep mischaracterizing the potential loss of watkins. If watkins leaves, the Rams would have traded Gaines and a 2018 2nd round pick for a 2019 3rd round pick. Moreover, gaines would have been gone this year negating the loss of watkins so its really a 2nd for a 3rd. Not a good trade...but far from devastating.
For the record, I would have tagged sammy...unless of course they are close to a deal!

The Rams are a good fit for him unless he insists upon being the 100 catch 1500 yard WR. Being a part of a winning organization and playing for amazing coaches and with excellent teammates has it’s own rewards.
But if not, the Rams will move on and have a helluva season.
Just one year later, the Rams are without Watkins, Gaines, and a 2nd round pick this year. That constitutes a major faux pas by the Rams brain trust.
