Stop with the film nonsense. Anyone can look at prepped footage and stills. It's not a body of work. It's not a full understandimg of what happened before and during the play. I can dialed up to build or tear down. It's not a collective view .
The thing that bothers me the most is the garbage said about stat watching. Saying people view a point that is different based on stats implies the opposing side of the debate is uneducated about football. What's worse is that people in here are cherry picking his one good stat to credit him while in the same sentence say that people are stat watching in regards to his poor stats.
It's truly got me frustrated reading passive aggressive dialogue. I'm saying how I feel and not disguising it. I know tape. I know stats. I've played at a high level in every capacity outside of the nfl for 9 years of my adult life so I know the context and how to piece it all together. I have a very good understanding of what is going with a players head in and out of game. That's why I always mention variables.
I'm not a hater. I wanted to like the guy and I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt. But if we are talking about last year, he came up short. Period. If we are talking about giving him top end money I'm not interested.
Not going to stop with film watching or talking about how it is superior to stat watching. Certainly, you can disagree, but that does not mean you are right. But I am not going to back off what is right. The only way to understand the value of Watkins is to watch the film. Looking at stats won't do it.
But what the stat watchers actually do is negatively cherry pick his touchdowns. They only talk about yards and catches. So you must be upset about that.
I am glad you have "played at a high level in every capacity outside of the nfl for 9 years of your adult life". I don't what it means, but good for you I assume it is your way of establishing your bona fides. I never talk about my playing or coaching career, I just let my posts speak for themselves but I will never change my opinion about film watching being superior to stat watching. Obviously, you are free to disagree.
If you have an issue with stills, don't look at them. They are done because I am not about to spend hours and hours posting many examples of edited films, it is too time-consuming so stills make sense in the time I have to do things. I like posting for people here but not that much. But to suggest they are someone not representative of things, then I would push back. Hard. I give honest opinions on honest representations of plays.
What I really find is people who object to stills are really just objecting because they show a view they cannot accept or upsets their apple cart.
People who object to stills never take the time to post counter stills, try and prove their point. All they do is cite stats is my experience. I am glad to be proven wrong but no one ever seems to.
Now to specifics: If you don't want to resign Watkins unless the price is what you consider reasonable fine. People can disagree. My contention is the reason for that opinion should be more than looking at his stats. And if you are going to use stats in the formation of the opinion then use the most important stat—touchdowns which for weeks has been ignored until someone who wants Watkins signed brings it up.
