Where to start, B&G?
Don’t overthink my “subtle” post or waste time trying to pschoanalyze it. It was an attempt to use humor to get a point across. No more, no less. Honest.
You love Watkins for the Rams. Presumably at prices up to and including the $16 million tag number. I get it.
I’d like to have Watkins back, too. “Potential’ and all. But only up to around $10 million per. So, we’re separated by “how much”, rather than “if”. Not really all that far apart, position-wise.
My “2 missed TD’s” remark was a direct response to la’s implication that the Falcon loss was in part due to ignoring Watkins. As you pointed out, there was plenty of blame to go around in that loss.
I’m not easily offended, as a rule. But your “straw man” attack comes kinda close. Comes within sniffing distance of becoming personal, you know? Hopefully, you didn’t intend it that way.
BTW, are you Watkins’ agent? Just kidding. There’s that humor thing again.
No, it was not personal, but at some point, an honest analysis is going to get close to home. And what you did not logical. It was not personal.
And as a factual matter, and I cannot believe I am defending laram, there was no implication that "that the Falcon loss was in part due to ignoring Watkins". The Falcons loss was a response to the heaping praise on McVay and Goff that they got as far as they did by ignoring Goff.
At some point I'd hoped that the Watkins discussion would center on more that the numbers, but sadly it hasn't.
I don't love Watkins, if he stays or leaves rams will survive. But like many I have watched this team struggle at WR for a decade, since Holt and Ike. And now, we gave a 2nd rounder for a talented guy who helped them win despite our good, young QB missing him being wide open a lot. Even with that he scored 8TDs and was excellent in so many ways that only show up on film and not in the stat sheet and we have people trying to save Stan's money and if they cannot do they they are fine letting him go WHILE not having a suitable replacement
That's the key. It's fine to let someone walk if you have someone groomed to replace. Heack, Rams traded Deacon Jones in 1972 because they could get a 2nd rounder and had Jack Youngblood to step in.
But this isn't that. This is London Fletcher, someone who was not a Pro Bowler at the time but was great in our system being replaced by Duncan.
This is Ike being replaced by Drew Bennett.
Anyway, I am sorry if you were almost offended, but your post, in my honest opinion was all I said it was. Not personal. But not logical, either.
