I think he was the Rams best receiver last year, and I did not expect that. He's also still young. He's going to be 26 for next season. As much as I like Sammy's speed, size, toughness, hands and potential as a great bubble screen guy, etc. etc. . . . . which they did not take proper advantage of . . . I think the Rams probably have enough without him to still make this offense click. But they're going to have to find a speed guy if they let him walk. Would be a shame, though, to lose a high draft pick for a virtual "rental." And he's young too
You severely undersell Sammy's affect on the offense in opening up the underneath routes for Woddy and Kupp.
No Watkins the defense shrinks the field and the underneath routes are not as open.
Did you notice how easily Woody would get open in virtually every game?
That's because in a lot of cases Watkins carried the #1 corner and defense had to keep a safety over the top.
As much as I love Robert Woods, IF defenses are rolling coverage to him...he won't be as effective. And some will say get another "speed" receiver.
Well Tavon has plenty of speed. Its more than that.
The Rams need Sammy or a player with his skills who is not a one trick pony and can threaten the entire field.
