Old guys with money vs players there is only one way it can go. Most of the players raising their fists in anger right now are going to be hurtin once those game checks stop, because they're not good with their money. That player unity thing will crumble fast in the face of that.
If I'm the owners I would crush this player rep soundly for taking that tact. And I expect nothing less if the players try to back up that talk.
He didn't say that an aggressive union was going to war against ownership
He said that this round of negotiations will be a war, and that means on both sides. It means he expects management to be as aggressive as it was last time.
So he wasn't declaring war, he was just saying he was prepared because that's what it will be.
Remember last time they did this the owners staged a lockout. That didn;t work btw. But it was a very aggressive thing to do.
And the union won't be broken. If it ever could have been, they would have broken it over the free agency issue years ago. A lot of what the NFL IS is a compromise between management/union positions. That's been working so far.
I just wish people would look at the real story and comment on the real issues. So for example the union wants to re-structure how the league handles rules violations and discipline. Nothing wrong with that. It's probably a good idea. So are some other union positions, such as dealing with the Thursday night football injury issue and no 18 game season etc.
