I just simply don't think they're going to be down on him or give up on a 2nd round pick because he wasn't one of 3 rookie TEs to catch 30+ passes. It is a notoriously slow-starting position in the NFL.
He did have catches of 39, 69 and 44 yards this year. And he did catch 8 passes in their first 3 preseason games so he wasn't overwhelmed then. I just think this kid is a classic example of someone they can develop to make a big leap forward in his 2nd season.
Not having a 60+ catch TE is hardly holding this team back. But they're about to have some pretty decent holes on defense and two starting OL a year further into their 30s that to me are far bigger 2018 priorities. If Everett and/or Higbee hasn't progressed noticeably by this time next year then yeah, let's make a splash at TE in 2019. But my guess is they won't need to.
