Gurley didn't have a chance to run. The offense was so predictable and limited the opposing defense had 10 in the box most of the time and he ran into a brick wall and didn't even make it to the line of scrimmage.
This actually started after his first 4 games his rookie season. The end of his rookie season was like his year 2 where the defenses figured out how to defend the Rams and Gurley had nowhere to run.
It was coaching that made the difference in giving Gurley the opportunity to use his talent.
