Steven Jackson did better in other years, under worse conditions with worse lines when defenses knew that's all the Rams had and the OLs were in far worse condition than anything the Rams fielded in 2016.
And of course Gurley ran against the same conditions in the last 4 games of 2015 when they had the same OL, Boras as the coordinator, and Keenum at qb. He did well in that situation with a good avg. per carry for those games. And they had tape on him then, too, unless you think the 2015 defensive coordinators they faced were all negligent.
Naw what happened to Gurley between 2015 and 2016 was in part Gurley himself. That's why he lacked the same explosion and strength and got less after contact even though statistically he was stuffed behind the line virtually the same percentage in 2016 as he was in 2015.
A lot of things went wrong in 2016. Gurley was one of them.
He fixed it in the off-season and good for him.
