The problem is that everyone trying to extend the ball over the goal line instead of just catching the ball and running over the goal line. Look at what Gurley started doing instead of extending the ball. He runs through the pylon now. If the Steeler TE secured the catch and fell forward it would have been a TD. Instead he extends the ball and it comes loose as it hits the ground.
I heard a rumor that Bellichick coaches his players to not attempt to extend the ball across the goal line - this stuff can be coached. So it's a competitive advantage to play smart and be cognizant of how you treat the nose of the ball.
I say that McVay will eventually understand this and coach accordingly. Advantage Rams!!
