I have said it for two years, if you are smart and have good ST then you should kick short of the EZ. Why give up 25 yards?
First, you don't give up 25. . . more like 5. You'd have to see what average length of kick is plus return average, it;s likely around 20-22
But the risk is one screw up by your kick coverage team and you give up a long one, or even a touchdown.
It you have the Pats, and are disciplined and a good offense, then you can do this over a season, but players miss tackles ball take a bad bounce, they hold you,say your guys v=cover perfectly and they refs miss a hold and they get a long return.
Risk vs reward
coaches understand it because they know the variables and skill sets of all the guys on the special teams, we fans don;t. We say "go for it" "go for 2" why give up 25 yards. Like that
