So if the ball comes down anywhere in bounds, it stays a live ball even into the endzone? That's even MORE reason that the Seahawks (or whichever team) MUST field a "short kick" at the 1 rather than hope they've appeased the football pantheon enough to avoid a bad bounce. [edited for accuracy]
It's a fun little thing to imagine. I can picture McVay scratching his unlined baby chin, noticing that the Rams have had great kickoff coverage this year but dissatisfied that great discipline is having such small impact on a game. "Hey Greg, c'mere a sec. C'mere. Do you think you can put the ball on 1? Yeah I know Johnny can but I'm not talking to him, I'm talking to you. How consistently can you drop a kickoff inside the 5? How much hangtime do we get on a kick? Can you get it higher, Z? And really, other than a few minor rule differences... just how different IS a kickoff from a punt? Bones, get the practice squad out here, I want to try out something."
