Jeez. What a moron.
Simms gives himself away as an unteachable loser when this guy who just couldn't make it in the league complains that one of the best offensive minds in football, his coach Jon Gruden, was just a bother to him because Gruden kept yakking in his ear in the huddle and he wishes he would have shut up.
So when McVay keeps yakking in Goff's ear, now it is unethical and cheating? And BTW, clearly Goff is the anti-Simms. Goff is teachable and coachable because he absorbs and uses what McVay tells him to make himself a better player. Where is Chris Simms? Out of the league.
Florio has it right; McVay is wisely using the system to help a young QB see the field and understand better what is out there. I imagine next year McVay won't have as much to say, but I think it is a huge advantage to have another set of eyes....and a brilliant mind.....to help to dissect what a D is doing. It's called collaboration. It's called development of young QB. And it is simply out of the box thinking.
As Florio says: it's not cheating. It is smart and other HCs ought to do it. Bottom line is the comm system is cut off at 15 seconds on the play clock. So why not make maximum use of the time BEFORE the 15 second cut-off? And you best do that with an up-tempo no huddle offense that forces the D to expose itself earlier, and for limited substitution of D players because there's not enough time. Pats do it all the time.
All McVay has done is to invent a new teaching tool for young QBs.
