Interesting idea you bring up your job as a comparison. Don't know what you do, but do you have a contract that you signed that will pay you 8 million dollars over the next two years? Probably not. But that is what AD has. Now, let's go a step further. You answered yes, but you think that you're underpaid for the position. How do you go about trying to get more? Well, you ask your boss or head of HR after showing them reasons why you are underpaid. Your boss or HR agree and tell you they'll work on a new contract that's fairer. Great. Awesome. Everybody's happy. Except now you don't show up for work. In the meantime, your boss has to scramble to try to find temps to fill your position.
They do okay, but really can't fill your shoes. So you miss a week, then another. Your company needs you, but you don't care. The company has a big meeting or presentation that they want you to spearhead, but now you don't want just a raise but 20 million a year for 3 years with an out clause so you can leave the company after collecting cash on your huge raise. The company only has so many dollars it can allocate for staff salaries. What would your boss do?
In real life, they would fire you.
But if the Rams "fired" AD, that would terminate his contract and he would become a free agent. Something they desperately do not want to happen.
