Agree completely.

One team's folly isn't setting the market.

Yes but think about it.

Does the average amount for different positions go up based on the last round of contract signings? Yes.

Even the Rams are apparently saying they are within the parameters set by Suh';s contract. Suh's name comes up automatically in these discussions, not just in here. Why do people mention Suh and not say Cox or Short or Dareus, do you think? Besides. No one is defining Suh as a Haynesworth style bad signing and FA bust. Now, Suh is the new landmark and Haynesworth is a footnote in old history.

As a rule, when you watch these things happen, the last highest contract or 2 for the best player or 2 at a position sets the market. It defines the parameters for the next discussion. If nothing else, the player -- if he's a top player-- won't take less, and he won't take the same, since 2 years later that is considered less. And teams know, if I don't pay this, another team will.

Like receiver. Bryant, Jones, and Green all sign for around 14-15 M in 2015. In 2017, Antonio Brown signs for 17 M.
