IN some games, over the years, Tavon made some big plays as a WR/RB...are those plays worth 10 mill? No, but around 3.5 mill a year all things included---however, for one McVay will figure out how to max Tavon's skills; then in 2018, it is a whole nother thing....cutting or trading him doesn't help us so much this year, so he stays...McVay finds a way!
Missing all of training camp will be Tavon's biggest challenge yet.
Yes, in 2015, getting 10 TDs (1 returning, 5 receiving, 4 rushing) was worth 10 M a year. 10 M a year is basically the same contract territory as Emmanuel Sanders and Randall Cobb. (Sanders has never had 10 TDs.) So absolutely he was worth that, for that production.
The problem was that they did not use him in the same productive way in 2016. But that's not Austin, it's how he was used.
Since getting Watkins, McVay has talked about Tavon more along the lines of being the 2015 player, that is, using him that way instead of the 2016 way. So yes McVay is figuring out how to use him---and when he describes it, he just describes how he was already used in 2015. Which yes is finding a way. Back to the future.
Tavon could be gone after this year. In fact I have said that myself. That's at least in part because McVay didn't draft him and DID trade for Watkins and Watkins is a free agent after this year, and you can't keep everyone. Chances are they will want the money for Watkins.
