Clemenza, my old and trusted friend, Tavon is paid too much, that we can agree on, but that is a reason to hate management not the player. Tavon has essentially been our only explosive playmaker and with a coach like Mcvay, I join the others that are excited to see how a field that features Krupp, Watkins, Gurley and Everett may open open some real opportunities that heretofore did not exist.
Again, I don't hate Tavon. It's NOT personal, just business. (Had to google the Clemenza reference, btw. Not as big a Godfather fan as some, lol).
I don't blame him for signing the contract, either. Would have been foolish not to sign for all that money.
Don't hate management for offering the contract. Disrespect would be more accurate. Think it was largely on Fisher, incidentally, although I can't prove it.
Hope you're right about Tavon's Ram future. Personally, I don't see him starting ahead of Watkins, Woods, or Kupp. But that's just me.
We clearly have opposing takes on Tavon. That's cool. Time will sort this all out, anyway.
McVay is supposed to be an offensive guru. I wouldn't be surprised to see him figure out a way to have TA on the field WITH Watkins, Woods, and Kupp. And Gurley.
Throw in Everett and the combos will be endless.
So I don't think it's a matter of saying he'll start ahead of them. Doesn't matter if he does or doesn't.
The point is to put stress on defenses and get the ball to playmakers.
Jumping on something you said in an earlier post...you said TA being on the roster may make them release a "better WR."
I don't think that matters either.
Whether there is a better WR or not is inconsequential compared to what's best to putting points on the board.
That 5th - 7th WR may be better as a "WR" than Tavon but as an overall player that player is not going to be as explosive, will not be the same level of playmaker and ultimately won't contribute as much to the offense scoring points.
The labels of the players is much less important to the bottom line of scoring points.
And I can assure you, if McVay and Snead thought that some 6th WR such as Spruce or Thomas would contribute more to the offense scoring points than Tavon, they would jettison Tavon so fast price tag be damned.
