The Ram did not low ball him, they gave him an offer comparable to Suh's deal. .
No speculation. It will come out at some point so you can refer back.
His agent is trying to make a statement with Donald's contract.
BIG contracts attract BIG clients.
Thats his angle
I have no trouble with that info though it's new to me as of today. I do however seeing it a little differently.
Suh's deal was 2 years ago. Contract numbers go up incrementally every year. You can watch each year as the avg. amount for a young starting qb's 2nd contract goes up. This year it's averaging between 24-25 M. Just a few years ago it was 20 M.
And I see Donald as worth more than Suh anyway. Plus of course the comparison for Donald is not the highest paid DT, it's the 3-4 highest paid defenders.
If I had to give it my own read, I would say that it's reasonable for a Donald deal to be around 20-21 M a year for 6 years with around 70 M guaranteed. That would make him worth anywhere from 6-12 M more total than Suh.
If the Rams offer was not in that territory then I would say they coming up short. If Donald were able to go out on the open market right now, there's a good chance the numbers would be even higher.
If what the Rams offered was more than that (20-21 a year for 6) and AD's agent was still rejecting it, then, it would indeed look to me like he was making things harder.
But Suh is not the standard. A reasonable deal for Donald would exceed Suh's.
So I say pay the man.
....
Nobody goes to their max on the first offer. At least good negotiators don't.
Offering a deal comparable to Suh's initially is no disrespect to anyone.
And it doesn't matter what you believe, as I said it will come out at some point.
Best,
