Rampage2K-
Sorry....I'll take someone who actually knows QB's word over a producer of NFL Films....
He lost all credibility with the toughness comments.
Go to the 29:00 minute mark.
Cosell's comments about Goff's toughness seems to have been taken out of context Rp2K.
Colin Cowherd asks "What concerns you with Goff?"
Cosell answers saying.. He clearly had the look of a quarterback that saw 15 defenders on the field. Not eleven and I'm sure if you asked him he would say that.
The word I like to use with quarterbacks, we always hear process information, I like to use the word Isolate. He really struggled to isolate where to throw the football within the timing and structure of the offense.
He was not getting a clear picture.
He just, and I've talked to quarterbacks about this a lot. When you drop back it just seems like there are bodies, no definition. And he was just seeing bodies.
There were numerous plays I watched, where he dropped back, the design of the play was there, but he just didn't see it. And you could tell because he moved before the route concept developed.
And the thing I think he's going to have to learn in the NFL, he's going to have to learn how to be a lot tougher in the pocket.
You're going to have to wait and let things develop. And you know what, there are a lot of bodies around you, that's NFL football.
Because he ultimately is a pocket quarterback Colin, which means he's going to have to be able to make throws as we say, late in the down, late within the structure of the pass game, and the timing of the pass game, and he's going to have to be precisely accurate.
He was not precisely accurate last year.Cosell's explanation of learning how to be a lot tougher in the pocket was him merely saying that he moved before the route concept developed.
I believe his explanation had nothing to do with Goff not being tough and willing to take hits. We all know that he's clearly willing to take a beating.
When a quarterback moves from the pocket a tad bit early, there is mental toughness and a processing skill required to hang in there another half of a second longer and being able to see the rest of the play develop before jumping ship.
JG didn't have that processing ability last season and Cosell was only saying that was a necessary step needed for him to properly take the next step because his strength is that of a pure pocket passer..
I myself think he's more mobile with the ability to slide outside of the pocket than Cosell might believe, but Cosell is on point with the moving early (not throwing the ball away and taking the sack)
Being able to tough it out for another quarter of a second and wait for (seeing) the play to develop before making that final last millisecond decision, is what the good quarterbacks are able to make. I'm sure you very well know this Rp2K and unless I'm out to lunch and misread Cosell, that is exactly how I interpreted his analysis.
