Not at all disputing your experience.
I've had DTV for 20 years. It's been superb. Excellent service if I ever have a problem. Never had a missed appointment; their techs (here in Florida are independent contract guys and not DTV employees) have been on time, courteous, and thorough. Upgrading me to better equipment a couple of times at no cost to me (I now have the wireless Genie service with 5 TVs and it is amazing...I love it).
I won't be even thinking about Sunday Ticket unless the Rams start winning. I bought GamePass for $99 and can watch the preseason live and see all NFL games replay the next day. Being able to view the game without commercials, breaks between plays, etc. is wonderful. And I can replay it over and over from anywhere on most any device that can access the internet. If the Rams become really watchable, I'll pop for Sunday Ticket even mid-season. But not until. Don't want to waste my time until they prove to me that they are more than hope and promise and great interviews by a Millennial and charismatic made-for-Hollywood coach.
