Despite playing only part of the season and having lousy mentors, Goff is in a much better situation than rookie season. Last year, he got playing time in the NFL, started to establish relationships with teammates, was exposed to an NFL style (meager as it was) offense for the first time, and proved to be fairly tough when getting hit in the pocket. This year, he has had a full off season to make progress knowing that he will be the starter. He's a year older and more mature, and he has had an opportunity to strengthen his body.
