Winning can matter, though not often

What, in your opinion, is the best way to approach preseason games? What are YOUR priorities, strategy and time played to get it right.. personnel.

Is 'winning' utterly unimportant? In ANY games. JamesJM

I think actually winning the game can matter to a team stuck in years of losing. So much of sports performance is about confidence and believing in the plan. I think it can mean something to a losing team to experience the plays that make it happen.

OF COURSE ... it can't be crucial. Last year's comeback win in the Colosseum did little for us. And, usually, the guys who end the game are camp bait. So, it's a small order of significance.

As for playing guys, again, I think it depends on the team. A settled, veteran team is just trying to get out healthy. A team with youngsters or new guys has more to work on to solidify things. I believe McVay will have Goff out there a lot in PS--the kid has a lot of adjusting to do.

But then, even that is limited. College teams have no pre-season. They do spring practice, then fall camp, and then they're playing for real. You could easily make a case for no PS games.

It's the oldest cliche in the book, but health is more important than anything else!
