Tru may not be worth the price of the franchise but hes clearly an above average NFL cb. To characterize him as marginal is disingenuous.
Moreover, how does handling him like Josh Norman help with anything? Carolina placed the franchised tag on him at the start of free agency then removed it after all the "good players" signed elsewhere prohibiting them from utilizing that money AND hurting their chances of a higher compensatory pick. While the rams are unlikely to get more then a compensation pick (like JJ) they at least have a viable cb THIS season.

An NFL players career can be over in a blink, I wouldn't like it either.
A one year franchise at $16M vs a 4-5 year deal with $25-$30M guranteed is a prodigious difference.
Plus it takes away a players leverage.
I would HATE it as a player.
Tru basically just got two years and about $30 million guarantee.....not a bad deal.
They had that option with the franchise tag and should have done it especially IF they're not even sure he fits the defense.
Just stoooopid handling of a marginal player.
