Lucked into three QBs that could drag him to Super Bowl wins.
Oh, and then switches sports and lucks into two drivers who win him three Sprint Cups
That kind of "luck" seems to follow certain people.
Except no one defines it as "luck." Though maybe they should, a bit? Because for example in 87, his 2nd superbowl win season, he was sticking with Jay Schroeder until a shoulder injury to JS forced his hand.
There;s absolutely no question Gibbs was a dynasty level coach.
But he had a little luck too along the way.
to play well enough to win the Super Bowl is not luck in my book.
Except he didn't recognize what he had; Schroeder, sans injury, would have remained the starter.
Everyone has a back-up qb ready and available.
Only the majority don't pay off at that level.
How many people knew in advance Williams would be one of the ones who would pay off?
Obviously not Gibbs since in fact he went into 87 thinking Schroeder was his starter, even though he had Williams from the start of the 86 season.
