Now, that’s a particularly sinister way of looking at the Rams’ intentions. In previous cases like those of Robert Quinn and Tavon Austin — both of whom signed extensions following their third seasons — the franchise has been willing to extend players long before they’d hit the open market. There’s no indication that the organization would look to squeeze every drop of Donald’s value without rewarding him with a long-term deal. But the franchise tag gives the Rams a ton of leverage at this stage of the negotiation.
There have been many others, (Jenks, McCleod or Tru) that the Rams have not extended prior to them hitting the open market. Instead they have extended guys like Long, J-Lau and Austin guys that probably should not have been extended at the point they were.
Donald's play has not made his defense better nor has it made others better, they've remained underachievers on defense.
The deal is not done. Why? Because thank goodness the Rams are NOT willing to pay
whatever he wants."WE not ME"
Donald's play speaks for itself.... I wouldn't say he doesn't make the defense better, because he absolutely does. There is no denying his dominance.
But, like me and others and the article points out, there is no bidding war for his services right now and won't be for at least three to four years, so if he wants to get paid now(which he does) he's going to have understand he is not a UFA and will have to take a discounted contract due to many other circumstances other then his play.
This silliness that "some" have in grinding their ax is nonsensical and sets a bad precedent for future top players.
I would pay Aaron Donald TOP money and, MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT THIS, the Rams WILL TOO.
He IS the best defensive player in the NFL bar none.

Your last words to me: "Your a great guy RFIP. I was very sad when you left the board, and your son, but was glad to see you back. Take care my friend, may God be by your side." 09/09/2017 12:58AM
No Nelson, you were a far better man than I, and I am sure an awesome husband and father as well. I will miss you my friend. -RFIP
