I understood what you were saying the first time.
And I’ll say again: Goff and Donald are not connected. Why even bring Goff up? I agree that Goff will determine the Won Loss record more than Donald will but who cares? What does one have to do with the other?
I care who the DT is. Same with DE and WR. Just because QB is the most important position doesn’t mean it makes sense to not care about the other positions. Your assertion about DT can be made about every non-QB position. None of those positions will impact the game as much as the starting QB. But that’s still a terrible rational in deciding who and how much to pay.
I’m also assuming that teams already make that value determination when considering how much to pay ANY player.
Here’s probably where we differ. My position is, that in Donald’s case, the position impact valuation should result in them deciding to pay Donald a lot of money since DT is one of the positions that impacts the game greatly. (Much more than Punter…)
Further, while a DE or 3-4 rush OLB would typically be a more impact position, when you have HOF type production from the DT position, the impact from that position is greater than your typical DE/OLB production.
In other words, HOF DT >>>>> typical above average DE/OLB in impact.
