There is no "either" "or" proposition that I presented. In no way is this a choose one over the other idea.
I'm saying that if Donald never plays another down in a Rams uniform, that will not determine the Rams Won Loss record as much as how Goff plays as the Rams starting QB.
I'm saying that I don't care who the DT is, he will never have the impact on game outcome that our starting QB will (no matter who that is).
And I'm saying then when deciding just how high a team is willing to go for a player (in this case Donald), then they ought to take into consideration what position he plays versus how much impact that position can have game in and game in when taken within the scheme that team plays.
Far out example: Why not pay the best punter in the league $100 mil for 6 years if that's what it takes to keep him? Because Punters don't affect game outcomes enough to pay that kind of money, I don't care if he might be the best of all time. Other positions impact more.
Goff's play will have more impact on a game outcome than Donald ever will.
