You know, it's funny. For years, people complained about Fisher's out-of-date, high school offense. Ram boards seethed with loathing for it.

Well, we now have what so many seemed to want: an anti-Fisher approach. You describe it well.

But I am not sure that everyone is willing to recognize what this new approach entails. Our OL struggled under Fisher, trying to do Fisher-style things. But then, Fisher's vision was dependent on a powerful OL. It seems to me that some of the criticisms of the draft are struggling to let go of the nightmarish memories of OL failures ... in Fisher's system.

You do well in describing a different vision for the OL. Now, I dunno if we have the right personnel for that vision. But, I agree with your reading of the vision and I am convinced that, in McVay's vision, WR/TEs, even a pass catching FB, are far more important than seeking OL excellence. McVay clearly believes that improving his receiving options will carry the team forward further and faster than adding a couple of solid OL. That's a strategic decision driving the roster adjustments.

Now, I don't really see you guaranteeing anything. And this vision may very well not work out. But I think that fans need to fully adjust their visions to a wholly new approach. We are not going to see our OL trying to play Fisher-ball next year. We are going to see it in a completely different offensive scheme.

I actually think that everyone who complained about Fisher's offense in the past should welcome the profound change in vision and to see that the draft and FA decisions made are in service of that new vision. It may or may not work, but boy it seems hopeful to me to see a commitment to a very different approach.
