Should we be surprised that there is debate, discord and dissension amongst a group of (mostly) Type A guys who follow a team that since 1990 has made the NFL Playoffs in exactly 5 seasons???
I think not.
Add to that general Playoff Futility Malaise we suffer, these following sources of additional frustration listed here:
--Wilderness Decade One, the seasons from 1990 to 1998 inclusive where Robinson, Knox II, Brooks & Verniel all failed to reach the PostSeason;
--a BatShyte Crazy Owner, Georgia BlackWidow Frontiere moving our storied Franchise from the glitzy WestCoast to Dresden On The Mississippi;
--then we finally get a HOF HC, who takes us to the Promised Land, and LooneyTune Rams Head Office fook it up & kick Vermiel to the curb;
--then we finally get a HOF QB whose RagsToRiches Life Story is as inspiring as his stats.....and we fook that up too, shuffling Warner off to New York;
--then we finally have a HC with RamsBestEver winning percentage, better than George Allen even...and LooneyTune HO fook that up too & fire Martz;
--then our Trifecta Of Idiots with Linehan, Haslett and Spagvaney leading to a NFL Historically Worst Ever 15-65 Five Season Run 2007-2011;
--then the worst thing happened...Ramsnation experienced Heightened Expectations with Snisher coming on board...only to tack another 5 dismal seasons onto Wilderness Decade TWO (2005-present)..........
like can you say, "Prolonged Period of Heartache & Frustration"???!!!
I mean, Jesus, Mary & Joseph.....given the emotional carnage wrought by the above negative events burning into us individual Rams fans' psyches, Mental Health Professionals should be researching Ramsnation for the DNA-Glue that holds us together, and moreover the Restraint Gene that prevents Rams Message Boards from breaking out into open fist-fights !!!
The curious thing to me is that guys here are expressing surprise that in some cases, that civility is missing from our in-house debates.
ME: We should not be surprised that passionate guys will disagree harshly given the decades (think about that...DECADES) of disappointment, frustration and anger. The surprising thing is that we continue to remain emotionally invested with this wacky Franchise!!
To paraphrase the late great Rodney Dangerfield:
"I mean, you look up "loyalty" in the dictionary and there's a picture of a bunch of Rams Fans!!!"
