I disagree with anyone who says Green would have won title with Rams, He didn't have the "it" factor it took. Warner had "it" and showed it.
End of story.
You can think that if you want, obviously, but it's a minor issue and purely a value judgement.
Here's the thing. We know that good qbs of the Green caliber (roughly speaking) have won superbowls. Hostettler, Flacco, Eli. They did not "lead" the team to it, they just came through and were otherwise good qbs. Who is to say Green was incapable of coming through in that way?
So you don't NEED an "it" qb to win the big one. Meaning elite, mentally and emotionally special in addition to talent.
Either way, though, to me none of this is about comparing the two.
We all KNOW Green was a good qb and that if he had a team you could win with him. Me saying that for all we know they could have gone the distance with him has nothing to do with Warner either way.
We all KNOW Warner was an elite qb with special attributes and that he showed that in his big games.
To me there's just no point in acting like saying one thing detracts from the other.
In fact I could say all the same things about Bulger I said about Green, and for that matter Everett too. Put them in the right circumstances and they could quarterback teams that could go the distance---as in "you can win with this guy."
How does that take anything away from Kurt? Why would anyone think it did?
For that matter, there is a long list of elite, top-echelon qbs who were stuck on teams that could never win the big one. Fouts, Tarkenton, Kelly, Marino, and etc. To me it doesn't diminish who and what they are as players that they were never on a team that could win a superbowl with them.
So in fact I don't actually see the point of your comparison. So you come up with this largely speculative point based on your own value judgments while forgetting that qbs of Green's caliber have played for superbowl winning teams, and from that I get what? Well honestly, I only get that you personally think that. Which is fine, but, it in no way subtracts from the main issue--namely, we all agree that Kurt was elite and Trent was good to very good. What most of us then go on to say is that saying good things about one in no way detracts from the other. No one is doing that.
