The last regime would make excuses, accept poor play and execution, etc, for offensive players. Even while the defensive staff would sit guys or outright cut them. Using last year as an example, if Sensabaugh had been a wideout he probably would have started the whole season. Instead, Williams demoted then cut him.
It's going to be like that on the offensive side of the ball now. There will be decisive decision making. Excuses will not be made. Poor play and continued mistakes will result in benching or replacement and giving the next guy up a chance. At least that's my expectation.
So back to Goff IF he can't get into that huddle and call the plays, or know the protections and be able to execute them, his starting job and designation as the QBotF will be at risk relatively quickly. Because McVay will have standards of excellence and will decisively project what these guys can be and will move on to Mannion being the focus to see if he can get the required level of play.
Goff doesn't need to be perfect. But he needs to show them enough to continue the thought process that he's the guy for the future. He's going to have to put together strong camp performances and then strong game performances to do that. Maybe not every game and snap, but overall he has to show something this year. If not, I am confident this regime will be looking for another QB and at the least opening up competition until they find one.
Very well said, Merlin.
The bar on O has been raised, man. And by that I mean a BUNCH.
We will NOT see a 32nd ranked O under McVay. Not ever...
