I just don't get it.
Here is a 21 year old, coming from a Air Raid system, having never been under center. He goes to the absolute worst offensive team in NFL and the worst possible coaching circumstances (Fisher plus an OC who has never been more than a TE coach in his life), among the worst WRs (as a group) in the league, and a very poor OLine.
Darn near no college team runs a Pro style offense to train the QBs. The CBA isolates the QB from his coaches.
Goff stands tall in the pocket and delivers good strong accurate throws when he has time. He is hit in the mouth relentlessly and gets back up. Never a bad word about anyone. And he is durable enough to withstand that beating.
He is known to be smart and coachable.
And after 7 games as a rookie the B word is thrown around like confetti.
Not saying bust is impossible. Just saying that it is like pronouncing a 10 month old that can't walk yet as a likely klutz the rest of his life.
Sure maybe the 10 month old will be a klutz the rest of his life. And sure maybe Goff will be a huge bust.
But we are FAR away from knowing that.
How about we give the 10 month old and Goff a chance to develop, and give a decent offensive coaching staff a chance to work with him and actually give him a workable system that is built to work with his positives (just like what happens with all good QBs), and with players around him that do their jobs?
If going into the 2019 season he looks like Hoyer, then I'll stand up and hold the Bust sign the highest.
But not now. Not yet. Not even close.
