Please understand that what I'm about to say is intended with all due respect. I am a HUGE admirer of yours, and of your football personnel knowledge.
First of all, Tru isn't all that. He's a real good CB when healthy. But that's it. He's no Aaron Donald type "must have", IOW.
Second, remember '12 when the Rams drafted their starting combo of rookie CB's in the 2nd and 3rd rounds? Yeah, Finnegan was the opening day starter but was replaced after injury fairly soon.
What would have been so hard about signing another FA instead of Tru as starting CB on one side and drafting the other starter with our 2nd? It's what you've been projecting for weeks now anyway with our 2nd rounder.
Then acquiring a starting WR or OG/C as a FA with the $8 million saved vs tagging Tru a second time.
Seriously, what's so hard about that? Unless one has simply fallen in love with Tru and is blinded to alternative solutions.
Myself? I lose interest in Tru as a Ram in our cap structure at somewhere around the $12 million mark. Just becomes a business decision for me beyond that point.
I would much prefer to let Wade and his staff pursue and develop other alternatives.
That's just my take, anyway.
