That was incriminating as heck to your case!! lol

Yeah he has had better years, which is my point. In fact to use your language, my CASE is that he has had better years.

And btw his percentages of drops even in 2015 were not as bad as some guys who have a bigger reputation than him, such as Edelman.

Meanwhile he also led the team in catch percentage several consecutive years.

I think the sneering at Kendricks is off base. It's selective. Like I said he's a very good role player and if he returns to his previous form he will be fine.

...
He get's a lot of easy receptions being a tight end. Even more being a Ram TE. Using guys like Edleman who is expected to catch the ball in stride and make a quick move while catching the ball as an example is not an academic formula.

Yet I remember seeing him in games, and that's not true. Edelman btw has a worse drop percentage than LK's worst in his career which is 2016. Oh and the vast majority of passes to LK are in stride. It's in the games. It's right there to see.

There are several games where he has clutch receptions. And he was always a very good weapon on play action. But I know, bad memories wipe that out. cool smiley

People are way over the top denigrating him. In doing so they often indicate to me anyway that they don't even know who he is and what he does.

As I said, like many Rams, he had a bad 2016, and this results in him being a whipping boy as if he were always bad like he was in 2016.

But from watching him, and from not getting into the "some bad memories interfere with overall assessment" syndrome, I know what we actually saw---a solid, effective role player who caught his share and (before 2016 anyway) was also an effective run and pass blocking H-back type.

I think most people who are down on him make the mistake of trying to compare him to receiving TEs, when that was never what he was.

Like I said a lot of Rams had bad seasons in 2016. That doesn't mean there should be only one rigorously enforced opinion of guys like Kendricks, or warfare over the fact that someone says naw he was better before.

....
Edelmen had 5 drops in 159 targets.
Kendricks had 6 drops in 87 targets.

Edelmen is required to catch the ball in stride, over the middle and make people miss immediately.
While Kendricks may be required to catch a ball in stride he is NOT good at it. Period. He is not asked to make a guy miss. He's asked to catch the ball when thrown to him. He does that very poorly. His drop rate every year is straight up bad. You are giving him credit for season that his drop percentages were bad. You said yourself to look at the stats. Well, the stats are terrible. He is a bad catching TE. He was a serviceable blocker but that has gone buffalo too.

I don't think he's a whipping boy. He's so far down on the list of whipping boys. The point is that he cost himself cash by dropping balls. I don't think he is anything but a serviceable spot player that is getting paid a lot of money. That's not his fault. It's the front offices fault. With that said, he's not worth his cash and I believe the Rams are hoping Higbee steps up.

I will correct some things. For 2016 Edelman has a drop percentage of 3.1%, for 2015 he has a drop percentage of 9.1%. Edelman's percentages in 2016 are better than LK's worst year (2016), while in 2015 LK was better than Edelman.

You use percentages because the number of targets does not matter...you can just compare the percentages. We do that with completion percentages for example when discussing qbs. No one says, well he has 60% on 200 passes and he has 59% on 300 passes. They just say he has 60% and he has 59% and everyone understand what that means without having to overthink it. So the number of targets does not matter. If you think it does then next time you discuss completion percentage always mention the number of attempts, or you're not being consistent.

Yes he's a whipping boy---I said A, not THE, though you act like I said THE. He is from this perspective. His 2016 bad play is being held up as WHO HE IS while historically that's not true...2016 is a bad year for him, so it's is wide open to debate as to who and what he really IS. To me, if people don't really acknowledge that distinction they aren't really discussing LK. They aren't being objective.

Having said all that yes absolutely he is worth the cash, which is modest, that is he's worth it if he returns to pre-2016 form. The usual danger in discussing a solid role player is that people just remember the bad year and completely factor out what came before, then act like they have described the player when in fact they haven't.

So we differ completely on this. . I am just committed to my view of Kendricks . If you see it differently that's fine with me, and we enter agree to disagree territory.

901

For a TE, the more attempts one gets, the higher the catch percentage SHOULD be compared to a WR. The degree of difficulty simply doesn't compare. THAT is my point. You are attempting to compare two different things and using one as a comp to build up. Compare Kendricks to other TE's. He is bottom tier his entire career.

That doesn't strike me as being the least bit true on the percentage thing. And the Edelman was just a "for instance" and had nothing to do with comparing WRs and TEs---Edelman is just a name I noticed of someone who had a higher drop percentage in 2015 than LK did in 2016. It was a toss off remark, not the stuff of epic board wars. More the stuff of unproductive minutia squabbling.

I don't follow you on comparing 2 different things. I think that's really beside the point, and is a minor thing compared to what I was actually saying---namely, LK has had better years than 2016 and has been a solid role player.

After that key point we're just squabbling over minutia, like I said, and...it's not that interesting. cool smiley So, I stand by my main point and everything I said and agree to disagree.
