I have cited many examples over the years where players accepted lower offers.

Hell Kenley Jansen just did it with the Dodgers.

Players want to feel wanted and valued by the organization.

The courting is just as important as the "deed".

Their are many factors that contribute to a players decision.

Sure everybody can cite a clear example of a money grab, but it happens a lot less frequently than betrayed.
