For the record, the writer in question was down on Goff before the draft and thought Wentz was the top pick. He didn't think Goff was ready enough for the NFL, certainly not compared to Wentz.
But see yeah we can have all sorts of speculations and opinions.
His claim, however, that Rams coaches like Mannion better than Goff is not presented as an opinion. It's presented as a fact. According to you it's okay as opinion. Alright. But it is not presented that way.
So actually I am not really talking about Goff, or Mannion, or even what the Rams coaches think.
I am talking about how a writer presents a case. How he writes it. And he is not talking the way you are talking. He is claiming he has sources that speak to the issue so that what he is offering is fact.
In my experienced, actual real reporters and analysts are more careful than that. He's sloppy. I just simply don't count him claiming a "source" on a topic where we're presumably seeing inside the Rams coaches's heads as legit. And in fact if there were such real scuttlebut out there why does this blogger catch wind of it yet dozens of (combined) LA reporters and national sports reporters haven't caught wind of it? In fact some are saying the opposite.
I am just saying the writer shows his amateurism. Personally I am not going to give that any credence by speculating what maybe he could have heard. He screwed up his real job, which is to present fact as fact and opinion as opinion, and being very careful about what gets stated as fact.
To me on that you apply the same standard you would demand if journalists were writing about YOU. So if they were, how would you feel about this statement: "although he has never been actually convicted of domestic violence, sources in law enforcement I know say that some local detectives in his jurisdiction think his wife thinks he should be."
