and believe me, no one wants me to be wrong more than me.
I like what Case has done so far.... but I still see the same weaknesses. That said, he's better than many other starters in the NFL right now, witness last night's game. I also think there are few teams playing really good football right now and the Ram's haven't met one of them yet. (Seattle may be getting it together but they weren't there in that first game). I'm not convinced that Case at 'his best' has what it takes to make then compete in the playoffs... even with good to great D.
I'm not sure Goff does either and tend to think that right now he does not. I still think his 'high' exceeds that of Case, however.
Case has bought himself quite a bit of time, IMHO. I applaud him. But being a 'worry-wort' I think it means one of two things, neither 'good'. One - he continues to do ok, he plays out the season, he doesn't have quite enough to get us in this year although I'd consider a playoff appearance even with an 'early out' a success - considering. Or TWO - it becomes obvious he doesn't have quite enough and they bring Goff in but I think it will be too late at that time.
I don't have an 'alternative' to that scenario... I don't think Fisher does either... so I'm not 'blaming' anyone.
I recently wrote that "The D can't win every game" as a subject title.... then in the body of the message I began with, "Or can they?".
Well, they can't win every game, I don't think, but I happen to be in the camp that thinks were looking at at 'least' a potentially elite D... in fact, IMHO is they don't get to elite I'm going to consider it a failure on the part of the coaches. With our D I see no reason this can't be the best season we've seen since the Martz days... with Case as QB. So lest you think I'm frowning by what I wrote about our QB situation.. I'm not. This year appears to me to be one giant leap forward.
I just think our 'best', our ability to WIN a playoff game, is still a QB away. - JamesJM
