When it became apparent that Goff wasn't ready to start game 1, you could see this coming a mile away.
Either the team would be bad, in which case it wouldn't really matter when Goff replaced Case.
Or the the team would be good, and
that would become an incentive to settle for Case Keenum far longer than they should.
I get it. Team chemistry. Don't fix what's not broken. All of that. And I got it before this, which is why I said something like this might happen.
What we have here now is a situation where the obvious long-term starter for this team, the player they hope is their franchise QB, can't be inserted into the lineup because they've won a few games with the backup, who very likely won't even be here next year.I don't care how you look at it, that's screwed up. And maybe it's Goff's fault, and maybe it's Fisher's fault, or his staff's fault, or maybe it's nobody's fault. But I don't think it's good.
I just think it's sad that the only way we can get our real starting QB in there is to lose 2 or 3 games in a row first. And sooner or later it will come.
I can easily see this situation happening: The Rams lose a few games they might have won, but for the offense failing. So Fisher finally puts in Goff and the offense gets better, on the strength of his throwing arm, if nothing else. Then at the end of the season they miss the playoffs on a tie-breaker that any one of those "games we had to lose in order to get Goff in there" could have changed in our favor.
IMO, it sucks.
