As for not running the ball much until last year, I think you'll find that they simply hadn't run as many plays overall as other teams because they have not been a good offense. So if you're only comparing total rushing attempts to other teams, it will look that way. But if you're looking at their actual run/pass ratio, they've been one of the more run oriented teams, plus the short passing game of course that were essentially long handoffs.
