Because he's gone about assembling a very run oriented, as opposed to pass protection oriented, offensive line that includes a #2 overall pick at LT who is a liability in pass protection. And he picked a stud RB with the 10th pick in the draft, even though he was coming off knee reconstruction.

As for not running the ball much until last year, I think you'll find that they simply hadn't run as many plays overall as other teams because they have not been a good offense. So if you're only comparing total rushing attempts to other teams, it will look that way. But if you're looking at their actual run/pass ratio, they've been one of the more run oriented teams, plus the short passing game of course that were essentially long handoffs.
