So, let me get this straight...
Case Keenum (a journeyman we've already cut) is our starting QB. Sean Mannion (a 3rd round pick from a year ago) is our backup. We're returning the same starting offensive line and WR corps (save for a 2nd tier WR from the draft who's injured) from last year and Todd Gurley is STILL the team's only real source of offensive production.
Basically, we're in virtually the exact same position offensively (that's 31st, btw.) as we finished in 2015.
Well... except for two MAJOR differences...
We've got a shiny new 3rd string quarterback and NO worthwhile draft collateral until 2018.
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Very Sobering & True Hunter87There might be some sliver lining that gets this offense out of the cellar but odds are they remain a bottom 7 team in total points scored.
1. Newly promoted OC (since Dec,2015) Rob Boras has had an entire off-season to tinker with the offense to better fit the personnel for attacking 8-9 man Defensive Gurley fronts. The Problem here is the QB talent level & Rams WR's have their history for various reasons why it might be more of the same.
2. Newly hired Passing coordinator & WR's coach Mike Groh was brought in to help but we have no details or proof that his hiring will make a difference until the regular season starts. The preseason drops looked more of the same so his arrival hasn't shown any change as of yet.
3. The younger players on the O-LINE are a year older and this UNIT as a whole could be much better than last season, which could significantly help in all aspects of the offense except for dropped passes.
4. Maybe Keenum has one of those overachieving years that backup quarterbacks sometimes rarely have when they're promoted to the starting gig for what ever reasons etc..
5. If the TE's this year can get open and catch the ball consistently the 3rd down crap % of 2015 should be better.. we all know that's a big IF though
Anyway to your point.... The offense on paper looks more of the same and even though some of us are expecting improvement, It would appear a ranking in Total Points Scored is going to be at best no higher than 25th.
Anything better than 25th would be a pleasant surprise. If the Rams 3rd down efficiency is bottom 3 again in 2016, We can expect another 6-7 with an outside chance of 8 wins. This seems to be what most of us are expecting this year anyway but we are all going to enjoy the season because we love our Rams and NFL football.
Oh Hunter87.. just because this offense has moved at a snails pace for 4 years doesn't meant
you need need to throw up in your mouth
