After QB, LOT is the position you keep long term regardless of price.
That's due to primarily 2 things. Longevity and rarity. Only QB combines those 2 factors to a very high level.
That's the reason Faulk was skeptical of picking up Jake Long. He said teams just don't let go of quality LOTs regardless of price. Turns out Faulk was right to be skeptical.
Rams took a chance on Long and lost.
Lol. Nah Faulk was as wrong as anyone else who decried the Long signing.
For one thing the Miami offer was comparable if not more. So they did not just "let him go."
For another thing Long DID play well.
For another thing those who had legit medical worries were those who said that with 2 arm surgeries he could not be the same player. They looked at that closely and he was fine.
Now there was a superstitious few who tried to sell the line that if you have had a couple of surgeries you will need more. But...no one really knows that and they never present evidence for it. They just say it. And, 2 arm injuries do not set someone one up for 2 freak injuries to the same knee.
So no one would criticized the signing was actually right about anything.
That has never stopped them from claiming to be...but we know how that is.
The Rams bought 3 big free agents who were all shot down by unexpected injury situations. Finnegan, Wells (who was never an injury risk before becoming a Ram), and Long (whose arms did not in fact hold him back from playing well).
