Florio is just stirring the pot....ie. let's make mayhem where there isn't any existing at the present time.
Los Ramos are in a good position.
Their Points/Game was abysmal in 2015....as it has been for some years now.
In 2013 and 2014, Fisher had the excuse of Sam WoundedKnee Bradford torn ACLs.
In 2015 the excuse for lousy Points/Game was the meltdown of Nick VacantStare Foles
This year we have a pretty competent Case Keenum at the helm....and a potential NFL superstar of the future waiting in the wings & LEARNING.
This looks like a pretty smart set-up by Fisher and Snead....
...but smarts, efficiency and competence DO NOT sell newspapers or internet advertising space sportsfans!!
Controversy is what sells baby!!! IF IT BLEEDS, IT LEADS!!!.....it's in "The Guide To Be A Sports Reporters' Handbook" !!
So what does Florio use to cause "a controversy" out of a calm and controlled environment???
The Draft Cost Of Goff.....that's what.
Florio's whole thesis is that "when you spend six draft picks on a guy, that guy cannot sit on the bench learning.....you need to plug him in right away, or you look dumb."
This is nonsense on so many levels.....but I will just opine this one:
When you assemble an NFL team, you do so with a goal of winning & making the Playoffs....oh and BTW, you have this fooking thing called a Salary Cap that gets in the way of building instant Dynasties, okay??!!
EG. So as you go about assembling your team, you do not care whether your starting LDE is older, or came via trade, or is replacing a former #2 overall pick. What you give a shyte about is how he produces in that spot for the money he sucks out of your Salary Cap for that season.
With the preposterous amount of loot that Sam Bradford, with his last Collective Agreement Final Rookie Theft Contract, consumed from the 2010 Rams Salary Cap.......plus the fact Spagvaney were 1-15 in 2009.......um, call me simplistic.....BUT THE RAMS HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO START SAM BRADFORD IN 2010. PERIOD. FULL STOP.
Contrast the 2010 "Spagvaney Desperation Scenario" of "who the heII is going to come watch the 1-15 team from last year, unless we add a big splash like Sam HeismanWinner Bradford???
Contrast that to this year.....where:
We just had an unprecedented move back to America's 2nd biggest media market....IN A FACE-BOOK, INSTAGRAM, TWITTER, ETC SOCIAL MEDIA WORLD.
We are a team that, for the past 4 seasons, plays close to .500 football with a tough exciting D & STs, and a popgun Offense.
We maneouvered skillfully to move up a dozen spots to Number One overall......never actually done before (okay...maybe once).
We have our QB of the future in the bank. THERE IS "THE HOPE ELEMENT" FOR THE LOS ANGELINOS!! Check off that box already sportsfans!!! The HOPE FACTOR is already in the barn!!
Now.....we need to establish some trust with the new fanbase via some victories. I think if the Los Ramos of 2016 end up around .500 again, and out of the Playoffs, the new fanbase will not abandon the team. Anything above that......and it's euphoria for everybody.
BUT......
here is how Florio (and his ilk) would like to create that "Controversy Thang"
1. Everybody knows that in marketing, the worst thing you can do is raise the client's expectations....and then fail to deliver.
2. Florio calls out Snead and Fisher and says: "Hey mooks! You paid a King's Ransom for this Goff kid, and you are NOT going to plug him in on Day One!!!??? What a bunch of maroons you are!!! Hey America, Snisher are gutless maroons!!"
3. Continuing on my scenario of HOW FLORIO GOT JEFF FISHER FIRED FORMULA..... let's say Snead and Fisher take the bait and start Goff IN WEEK ONE....several things could happen:
Goff comes out of the gate a la Ben Roethlesberger and goes 14-2.
Goff comes out and gets smacked around like a Red-Headed StepChild, a la David Carr in Houston, and stinks.
Goff comes out and gets decent protection from OLine, superior running from Gurley, Bennie, Brown & Green...and still stinks.
Goff comes out and stinks so bad they need to pull him.
When you have multiple scenarios like the above......AND ONLY 1 (O-N-E) IS GOOD......the smart guys like Snead and Fisher, hedge their bets, and go with Game Manager Case Keenum to win tough defensive battles, like he did up in Seattle last December 28th!!!....and you keep that HOPE FACTOR ACE IN YOUR BACK POCKET and insert a ready-or-not Jared Goff, if the aforementioned Game Manager Case Keenum absolutely tubes it.
So I applaud Jeff Fisher when he spells it out for the umpteenth time to media twits like Florio...."WE WILL BE PATIENT ON GOFF." To me, Fisher and Snead are playing this whole Goff Thing very smart.
That's my take on how this Florio Bull-Shyte Session shapes up for my team.....but like Dennis Miller oft time says, "Hey, that's just what I think....and I could be wrong."
Last thought....for those guys still pushing for Jared BallSecurityIssues? Goff to start Week One.....
-if Goff's second fumble hadn't bounced out of bounds, and KC recovers it....if Malcolm Brown doesn't make a damm fine catch of "not exactly a precision dart from Goff"....
...ie. If Goff's Saturday Night BoxScore showed two fumbles and zero TDs...
would we even be having this conversation???!!!
To me, Goff is not ready. The smart move by Fisher & Snead is to let the kid get up to speed, with a minimum of early pressure, and bring him along like Bill VerySmart! Walsh did with Joe Montana....and the Green Bay braintrust did with Aaron Rodgers. I could mention how New England managed Brady, but I always throw-up a little in my mouth when I think of Kraft, Bellicheck et al!!
