The rap on him was that players would go back into the huddle and he would call a play that no one ever heard of. And then he would make something up.. You know these plays are no longer like "42 left on 5" . It's more like "Ace 51 yoga flat zero flank toga switch zero pickles 11 mama mama"(or something like that) When I played the odd numbers meant the run was to the right w/ the actual number meaning where the tailback was running-and the even numbers were to the left, etc. I could be wrong but I don't think the linemen today need to know the entirety of the play -only their assignments.
To repeat myself I hope Goff is given a learning curve. Whether he should have been number one is debatable-even here-but since he was he shouldn't IMO be pushed into something he's not ready for. And if a lineman can't determine his assignment due to a failed play call in the huddle your number one might just get killed.
