Goff ranked 12th-best QB by NFL coaches and executivesBy:Cameron DaSilva
The amount of talent at quarterback in the NFL right now is incredible, ranging from veterans like Tom Brady and Drew Brees to young stars such as Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield. Jared Goff is certainly one of the better passers in the league, but where he exactly he ranks is difficult to determine.
If you ask most people, he ranks somewhere in the 10-15 range, give or take a few spots in either direction. Mike Sando of The Athletic asked a group of people who would probably know best, polling 55 NFL coaches and executives for his QB tier rankings.
Goff was ranked 12th in the poll, moving up seven spots from last year and a full jump from Tier 3 to Tier 2. He’s not quite in Tier 1, which consists of the top eight quarterbacks, but Goff is definitely getting close.
Here’s a snippet of what was said about Goff.
“I like him a lot,” an offensive coordinator said. “He didn’t play as well as you’d like in the Super Bowl, so people are overreacting, but you watch his season, he makes some unbelievably good throws. He is the perfect guy for them. Definitely a 2.”
Nearly a third of voters placed Goff in the third tier.
“The couple games he had to carry it, he could not do it,” a defensive coordinator who faced the Rams said.
This coordinator and others thought Goff was highly dependent on coach Sean McVay’s presnap acumen in combination with Todd Gurley’s rushing. It’s the age-old question: How best to handle division of credit in a sport with so many dependent parts?Go to Full Article--
