What is the thing you want most from a back-up QB when you have an elite starter? A hold the fort guy with lots of experience.
JG is not a "bridge" QB, either.
He is a guy who has run a similar offense, seen tons of different D's, knows the NFC and NFC West teams well, and is a steady guy who rarely will lose you a game from poor play.
Further, McVay knows JG well, and what he can do and what he can't.
I also don't think JG is fooling himself. He knows he's not resurrecting himself for a starting gig somewhere else.
And, he's not expensive.
He's exactly the right guy to have as our back-up.
