It's along the same lines as paying back a $1,000 debt today as opposed to paying that debt a year from now.

It's $1,000 either way, but future money isn't worth as much as today's money. (That's why interest is charged for delaying payment.)

Draft picks work the same way, and it's been computed that way for decades (even for trades that the Rams aren't involved in).

Would you have been OK if the Rams traded this year's 1st round pick for a 1st and a 7th in 2026?
